What do you want to be when you grow up?
When I was in year 5 at school, the teacher had us draw pictures of ourselves when we had grown up.
Along with Daniel the director, Joseph who took over the world and Dean the criminal (year 5 kids do have active imaginations), I wanted to be an author.
I wanted to be an author just like R.L. Stein who wrote Goosebumps (my favourite series back then).
Achieving the dream
I am finally on the verge of achieving my dream. I have written a book and am about to publish it on Kindle!
The book – Increase your refund
The book is about how to claim all deductions that you are entitled to as an employee. I wanted to create a really practical resource that had lots of examples about exactly how to calculate what you can claim. Also, what records you need to keep and what happens if the ATO asks questions about your return. So I decided to write a book about it!
How hard is it to write a book?
I must admit that when I read books I used to think that the authors sometimes went on a bit thanking everyone. Now I realise how difficult it can be to publish a book, I totally understand.
Writing a book isn’t that difficult. Re-writing and making it better can be painful. But finishing a book and getting it to the point that it reads well from start to finish, teaching what people need to know, in the right order, at the right pace, and taking into account that some people might be novices and some experts – well that is difficult! Writing a non-fiction book is a bit like building a house. There is so much time spent establishing each part of the foundations and the building so that the house doesn’t start leaking if it rains.
Download my book (when it comes out)
I’d love you to download a copy when the book is released. Note that you don’t need a Kindle to read Kindle books. If you don’t have a Kindle, I recommend that you download the Kindle app on your Android or iPhone. Also, you can download Kindle for your PC or Mac. The apps are free and you can download them here.
